Who Is This Person, And Why Should I Care?
Today’s entry in the SetupSeries™ is the Young Don Dom Esposito. Dom has been running his YouTube channel for 5 years, with his first video coming out in 2012. His old YouTube handle used to be Macmixing because he used to primarily focus on apple products such as the iPhone, the iPad, and the associated accessories. In addition to producing videos he also produces most of the music featured in his videos.
Since his early start in YouTube the Young Don has amassed an astounding 406,761 YouTube subscribers, 91,100 Twitter followers, 55,200 Instagram followers, and 25,549 Facebook fans. This growth can be attributed to his quality tech videos, and savvy digital presence. If you are interested in checking out Dom Esposito, I will provide links to his social media accoutns where you can connect with him.
Now without any further ado, let’s dive right into the setup goodness. Enjoy!

The Hektar lamp is a staple at IKEA for it’s high quality and low cost. It also features wireless charging for phones that can take advantage of that, and for phones that can’t there is a wireless charging cover, Vitahult (sold separately), to make your device capable of wireless charging.
You can charge 2 devices at the same time since there are also USB ports built directly into the base of the lamp. The Hektar also features an attractive industrial / modern design blend with a easily adjustable head and arm for positioning the light at the perfect angle.
This is your everyday standard 6 outlet surge protector. If you need extra power outlets this is the perfect pickup. It has a 2.5 foot heavy duty cord, the switch trips at 15 amps to protect your devices from sudden power surges, and features a right angle plug to sit closer to the wall and be less obtrusive. Solid pick up.
100 standard black zip ties for you cable tying needs. These are hard to take off, so if you put these on something think long term.
This is another type of zip tie except instead of plastic its made of VELCRO and straps to itself. This is more useful for situations when cabling isn’t permanent.
A solid budget option for a modifiable table top. Easy to wipe down and clean like all other IKEA products.
Trestle style table legs. They have an industrial look, so if you’re into that aesthetic then these may be good for you. Definitely a modern design so keep that in mind when building your setup. Has a nice base that can act as a shelf if desired.
Its a solid looking chair. It has wood, metal and wheels. There are no cushions so use at your own risk. Positive, it’s easy to clean. Negative, blisters in unsightly places with too much prolonged use. I’d upgrade ASAP if you plan to sit for long periods, (which you really shouldn’t be anyway, but I understand).
HP Premium Lifestyle Wireless Keyboard and Optical Mouse – Bundled w/ HP Pavilion Wave Premium Mini Desktop
These actually come with the computer and can’t be bought separately (not that you’d want to anyway). They aren’t special, but they get the job done. Unless you need something (read: anything), I would replace these with something more robust at the first chance.
Position this on the bottom of the table legs to form a shelf. Bonus: you can write on it.
It seems that fake plants are all the rage in the tech game at the moment. Nothing like a splash of green to liven up the setup right? Either way, love it or hate it, I think this trend is here to stay. So stack your green thumb and fool others into thinking you can keep a plant alive while banging out late-night CS:GO matches.
For Those Looking To Recreate This Setup
Things Done Well?
- Very clean minimalist design
- Economical options that stretch a budget
- Easy entry level setup
- Easy to clean/maintain setup
What Can Be Improved?
- That chair. It will suck after prolonged use
- Upgrade the mouse and keyboard
- If you want to game, you won’t be doing it heavily on that desktop
- It lacks an external audio solution. Pick up some headphones or some bluetooth speaker
This setup is a college student’s dream. It’s not overly flashy to the point where people will want to steal your stuff, but still looks high quality and well put together. While the chair, keyboard, mouse, and audio all could use an upgrade and leave a lot to be desired, they are relatively easy to upgrade as time goes on.
You also won’t be getting much gaming done for hardcore AAA titles, but you’re a college student so you wouldn’t do that anyway. You’ll be spending so much time studying and doing homework ;). In that regard though this should be all you need. Get homework and assignments done in style, and you even have a solid monitor for the Netflix binges.
All in all quality pickup that I would encourage people to check out if you’re in the market for a budget friendly and modern setup.
